Salazar Elementary recently participated in the Olive Garden’s 17th Annual Pasta for Pennies program benefitting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Pasta for Pennies encourages students to collect spare change to support the Society’s mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma and Hodgkin’s disease to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. During the three week collection period Salazar was able to collect a total of $3,828.66. Ms. Audrey Ybarra’s first grade class won the contest with a grand total of $640.79 to contribute to the final total. The students were treated to an Olive Garden pasta party in their classroom for their efforts. On March 25 the Senior Campaign Manager for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Melissa Johnston, dropped by Salazar Elementary to accept the check to be used to help those patients in need. The whole student body was able to be there at the presentation. Special thanks to school nurse Cordelia Bosquez for spearheading this worthy cause. |
